{"id":30,"date":"2009-06-17T21:50:38","date_gmt":"2009-06-18T01:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/franklintownshipvoice.org\/?p=30"},"modified":"2010-05-29T23:04:40","modified_gmt":"2010-05-30T03:04:40","slug":"groceries-for-guns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/franklintwp.info\/?p=30","title":{"rendered":"Groceries For Guns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbng.com\/news\/local\/48106087.html\">WBNG News<\/a>\u00a0Jun 15, 2009 at 6:13 PM EDT<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbng.com\/news\/local\/48106087.html\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Gun Exchange\" src=\"\/images\/Gun_Exchange.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p>Getting guns out of homes and off the streets is the goal of an exchange program.<\/p>\n<p>The Peace and Justice Committee at Johnson City&#8217;s St. James Church is part of the program.<\/p>\n<p>Wegman&#8217;s is supporting the project by offering 150 dollar grocery cards for every gun turned in.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a limit of 2 functional hand guns or automatic weapons per person, no questions asked.<\/p>\n<p>Co-chairman Jack Gilroy says it&#8217;s an opportunity to prevent an injury or a death.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve had people killed locally right here in Johnson City. Sometimes guns are around the house and people don&#8217;t know what to do with them. So when they bring the gun in, we&#8217;ll have a gun expert check the gun out and then it will be disposed of.&#8221; said Gilroy.<\/p>\n<p>The groceries for guns exchange will take place Saturday, June 27th.<\/p>\n<p>Look for the tent outside St. James Rectory in Johnson City.<\/p>\n<p>Shotguns and rifles will not be accepted.<\/p>\n<p>The Mental Health Association and Broome County Gang Prevention are also sponsors.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WBNG News\u00a0Jun 15, 2009 at 6:13 PM EDT Getting guns out of homes and off the streets is the goal of an exchange program.
